How much does house window tinting cost in Perth?
Residential window tinting in Perth runs from about $75 to $150 per square metre. For a typical three-bedroom home that works out between $1,500 and $4,500, depending on how many windows you treat, which film you choose, and how easy the glass is to reach.
Standard solar film
from $75/m²Good heat and glare reduction for the money. The sensible choice when you're treating a few problem windows rather than the whole house.
Ceramic film
mid rangeMore heat rejection at a lighter tint, so rooms stay bright. No metal in the film, so it won't interfere with Wi-Fi, phones or TV signal.
Spectrally selective
to $150/m²The most heat blocked for the least change in appearance. Worth it on big living-area glass where you want the view and the light kept intact.
What changes the price
Four things move a quote, and any quote that ignores them isn't a real quote.
- How much glass. Treating three problem windows costs a fraction of doing the whole house — and often gets you most of the benefit.
- Which film. The range above is genuine. Standard solar film and spectrally selective film are different products at different prices.
- Access. Ground floor is straightforward. Second-storey glass needs equipment and time.
- Window shape. Arched, bay and skylight glass needs templating, so it takes longer than a standard rectangle.

The honest answer
Is tinting house windows worth it?
It depends almost entirely on which windows you have. West and north-facing glass with long afternoon sun is where film pays for itself. Small, shaded or south-facing windows benefit far less, and treating them rarely justifies the cost.
We'd rather tell you that up front than quote you for glass that doesn't need doing. Here's the honest split.
Where it makes a real difference
- West-facing living areas that become unusable from about 3pm in summer
- North-facing glass carrying sun through most of the day
- Large floor-to-ceiling windows and alfresco sliders
- Rooms where you're closing blinds during the day just to cope — and losing the view with them
- Home offices and media rooms where screen glare is the actual problem
- Rooms with timber floors, rugs or artwork that are visibly fading
Where it's usually not worth it
- South-facing windows, which get little direct sun in Perth
- Glass already shaded by verandahs, deep eaves or established trees
- Small windows in bedrooms and hallways you barely use
- Rooms that are already too dark — film reduces light, it can't add it
- Glass you're planning to replace anyway within a year or two
Most Perth homes we quote end up treating somewhere between four and ten windows rather than every pane in the house. That's usually where the money is best spent.
Before you commit
What are the disadvantages of home window tinting?
Film reduces natural light, it's difficult to remove once fitted, and it won't fix a draught or a glazing problem. Those are the real trade-offs, and they're worth knowing before you commit.
It reduces natural light
Every film does, some far more than others. A dark privacy film in a south-facing room will make it gloomy, and no amount of good installation fixes that. This is why we bring samples and hold them against your own glass in your own light before you decide — a film that looks perfect in a brochure can be wrong for your room.
It isn't easily reversible
Film bonds to the glass. Removing it properly is a job in itself, particularly on large panes, and it's not something to attempt with a scraper on a weekend. Choose the film carefully the first time.
It won't fix everything
Window film reduces heat coming through the glass. It doesn't stop draughts around old frames, it isn't a substitute for double glazing, and it won't help much with noise. If your real problem is a poorly sealed window, tinting it will disappoint you.
Cheap film fails, visibly
The purple, bubbling windows you see around Perth are dyed film that has broken down under UV. It's the cheapest option and it's the reason a lot of people are sceptical about tinting at all. We'll fit budget film if you ask for it, and we'll tell you plainly what you're getting.

What house window tinting actually does
Heat and glare
This is why most people call us. Film reduces the solar energy coming through your glass before it becomes heat inside the room, which takes load off the air conditioner instead of asking it to catch up. The practical difference is a living room you can actually sit in at 4pm in February.
Glare is the other half of it, and it's the one people underestimate. Cutting glare on a TV or a monitor often matters more day to day than the temperature does.
Privacy without closing the blinds
During daylight, a reflective or privacy film lets you see out clearly while making it much harder to see in. That's the trade blinds can't offer — they block the view in both directions.
Worth knowing: that daytime effect reverses at night once your interior lights are on. For glass that needs privacy around the clock — bathrooms, ensuites, street-facing windows — frosted window film is the right product instead.
UV and fading
Perth's UV levels are high for much of the year, and it's UV that fades timber floors, rugs, curtains and artwork. Window film blocks the large majority of it, and the protection works continuously without you doing anything. It's a slow benefit you notice years later when you move a rug and see the difference.
Security and safety film
A separate product worth mentioning. Security film bonds broken glass together rather than letting it fall, which slows a break-in attempt and reduces injury risk if a pane is hit. It's thicker than solar film and priced differently — ask if it's relevant to your situation.

How a job runs

We come to you, measure every window, check which way each room faces and show you samples in your own light. No obligation.
- Written quote
Itemised room by room, with the film named. Treat everything, or just the windows causing trouble.
- Installation
Most homes are done in a day. We protect floors and furniture, and clean up before we leave.
- Handover
Care instructions and your warranty paperwork. Leave the glass a few days to cure, then clean normally.
Looking after it afterwards
Give the film a few days to fully cure before cleaning. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is all it needs. Avoid ammonia-based glass cleaners, which break film down over time, and don't use anything abrasive on the surface.

The film is warranted by the manufacturer. The workmanship is ours, and we stand behind it — we've been fitting window film in Perth since 1995 from the same Bassendean base, which is a longer comeback period than most.
Ask which warranty applies to the specific film you're considering before you book. It's a fair question to put to any installer, and if they can't answer it clearly, that tells you something.
